Fall Career Expo 2014 at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome

Last week, I went to The Fall Career Expo 2014. The free shuttles that were provided from the uptown campus to the Mercedes-Benz Superdome made it very convenient to attend. At least 60 major companies including Apple Inc., Pepsi Co. Inc. and Entergy were there to recruit employees.

Before the career fair, the Freeman Career Management Center provided us with important information, such as how to dress professionally, and to bring at least 20 resumes and printed business cards etc. With these great tips, we were well prepared to meet with the company representatives and make a good impression.

As international students we sometimes felt nervous at first, but the employers were friendly and willing to answer all kinds of questions. Each time after talking with a company, I learned how to perform better the next time. After communicating with 3 companies, I felt relaxed and knew my goals clearly. Some of us even got the chance to have a next-day interview.

I think another good tip for students who are looking for jobs and internships is to participate in all kinds of activities, both on and off campus. This is a good way to broaden your knowledge and improve communication skills.
