Hi there! I’m Katherine Klagholz from Monroe, LA and I graduated from Tulane in May 2015 with a double major in Political Science and International Development and a minor in Social Innovation/Social Entrepreneurship. As a current Master of Management student, I can fully say that this program has been a great experience for me so far. During my senior year at Tulane, I had a general idea of what I wanted my future career to look like and highly valued everything I learned with my majors, but felt I lacked the business and management skills needed to succeed in a specific job. The Master of Management program seemed to be exactly what I was looking for.
When I first began classes this past summer, I was unsure what to expect. However, our small class quickly got to know each other, as we were split into our teams that we would work with throughout the summer and fall semesters. Even though it required waking up early on Friday morning for a few weeks, I loved getting to work through challenges with both my group and the class as whole during a variety of team-building “field trips” (that were surprisingly fun)! This provided a great foundation for the many projects I would be doing with my group, which required all of us to take on leadership roles and discover what skills each of us could bring to the table that would make our presentations stand out. Although working on group projects can often be difficult, having the ability to work well as a team is essential for every career. This experience with my group allowed for us to practice these skills by learning how to effectively incorporate differing ideas and strategies into one common goal, product, or outcome.
I found the courses themselves to be both challenging and interesting. My first semester introduced me to a wide variety of business subjects, ranging from analytics to strategic planning. This allowed for me to further explore my own strengths and consider what role I may want to pursue at a company. With fall semester being an introduction to a little bit of everything, I’m excited for this upcoming semester to delve deeper into these subjects and give me the opportunity to focus in on what I can see myself doing in the next five years.
As spring quickly approaches and the job search intensifies, I am confident that what I have gained through the MMG program has made me better prepared for interviews and given me the skills to succeed with my dream job. I can’t wait to see what comes next!
