My internship hunt started before I took my first classes at Freeman and I’m happy to report that as of this week the search is finally over. It’s a great feeling to know that my internship is lined up and now I just have to focus on tackling my fixed income, internal reporting, corporate strategy, and options classes. I was fortunate enough to be selected as a fellow in a program called Education Pioneers. I first heard of Education Pioneers at the National Black MBA career fair in Washington D.C. this fall. I highly recommend that all students attend this conference or one of the few other fall conferences that attract the same companies. If I remember correctly there were more than 500 companies in one location and they were all interested in locating talent. The great thing about next year is that the National Black MBA career fair will be in New Orleans so it will only take students a few minutes to get to the conference. And, just in case you were wondering, the conference is open to any and every MBA student.
How are the rest of my classmates doing with the internship search? Currently, some of my classmates are finalizing their plans while others have already accepted internships. It is no secret that this may not have been the best year to search for an internship, yet there are still opportunities available. The key is to really understand what you want to do and being able to communicate how your past experiences make you a perfect fit for the position.
