A weekend to celebrate
Last weekend was full of fun events. Tulane Entrepreneurs’ Association hosted its 9th annual Business Plan Competition (BPC), and two Tulane teams took first and second prize at the 504ward business competition. This weekend $265,000 was given out in cash and prizes to entrepreneurs and it all happened in Tulane’s back yard. I also had the opportunity to meet some prospective students, who are no longer prospective. They’ve committed to Tulane and were here for the weekend, learning even more about the Freeman School. The excitement started on Thursday night when a bunch of TEA officers went to meet the BPC contestants for drinks and to escort them to the grand opening of The IP, a re-invented 80,000 sq. ft. space located in the New Orleans “Tech Quarter.” The building is designed to house innovative organizations and bring them together in a collaborative environment. Friday, we kicked off the morning at 7:30 by coming in to make sure that everything was set up and ready for the judges and the contestants. Six teams pitched their business plans to some of the region’s heaviest hitters, and had to wait to hear their fate until the gala that evening. No one knew the results, so it was a very exciting moment when Will opened the envelope. http://blog.nola.com/tpmoney/2009/04/college_students_compete_in_tu.html Saturday was the 504ward competition and our own Ishaneka Williams and Will Donaldson took first and second place. http://www.nola.com/news/index.ssf/2009/04/idea_for_new_orleans_socialnet.html So an added bonus of going to Tulane…. not only do you get a great education, but you get to use what you’ve learned to launch your own business. That’s pretty amazing.
