I’m thrilled to be working at Tulane for the same reasons that you will enjoy being a Tulane student. I moved to New Orleans recently, in the summer of 2012 to join the Freeman School as the Director of Graduate Admissions. A year has gone by and I’ve done a full cycle of work activities (recruiting, graduation and orientation), both seasons (hot and cool) and some of the numerous New Orleans events (there are way too many to list each year much less attend).
I have found that Tulane is a unique place that allows students to get the most out of their experience. The Freeman is a smaller school at which the staff and faculty are always trying to make sure that the students have a great educational experience. The small size allows students and faculty to get to know each other.
Then there is this place around Tulane, called New Orleans, Louisiana (NOLA). Leave the French Quarter to the tourists and your visiting friends; there are many other options for you, the new local. In the past year I’ve done quite a lot – listened to awesome live music on Frenchman Street, street festivals, great Halloween parties, music festivals, participated in one of the small Mardi Gras parades and went to most of the big ones, had great food, sailed on Lake Pontchartrain, stumbled through tango lessons, went on fun runs and bike social rides, got chased at the Running of the Bulls, and got to see and hear the Dalai Lama at Tulane’s Graduation.
Your time at Tulane should be just as intense and event filled. While you will have to study hard, the quality of your breaks from study can be very high. In a two hour study break you might be able to run off and catch a live brass band on Frenchman Street, participate in a bike social ride, or go jogging in Audubon Park.
If you are the type of person who wants to work hard and participate in a wide variety of fun activities, Tulane and NOLA is the place for you to learn and live. If you have not been to New Orleans, or if you have only visited the French Quarter-warehouse district, email or call us to arrange for a campus visit and learn what it will be like to be a new local in America’s favorite city. If you have not done so, please fill out and submit your inquiry data so that we can invite you to our next campus visit event.
