Beta Alpha Psi, the professional accounting organization at the Freeman School, holds “Meet the Firms” twice a semester. The Big 4 and other CPA firms come to Tulane and meet with the accounting students. The activity is for accounting students only, and each firm will have 4 to 8 people here, so you don’t have to wait in a long line. Usually the Big 4 will send different levels of staff like associates, senior associates, managers or even senior managers here. So you might meet your future interviewer!
The atmosphere is relaxed. We can talk about job opportunities in the firm, get more information about the firm, and ask them for suggestions about our careers. As a student graduating soon, I had the chance to meet people from the companies where I want to work. All the people I talked to were friendly and gave me useful information.
For students who attend this event for the first time, I would suggest that you ask for a business card from everyone you’ve talked to. The firms will all bring some gifts, feel free to take some so they can remind you of the firm later.
Besides this big event, Beta Alpha Psi also holds regular meetings with one accounting firm each week. The firm will give a presentation first to introduce the company, and then the students can ask questions or network with the staff. As you can see, the MACCT students at the Freeman School of Business have great resources to learn about the accounting profession and to connect with potential future employers.
